Matt Smith (The Doctor) and Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) attended a special screening of the premiere of Doctor Who Series 7 at New York City's Ziegfeld Theater. The episode, "Asylum of the Daleks," debuts on BBC America on Sept. 1.

Amy Pond, the spirited Scottish companion to the amazing, mysterious and nigh-immortal Doctor in the BBC TV series Doctor Who, is often referred to as "the girl who waited." It's a reference to her first appearance on the show, when the Doctor, jumping around in time, accidentally leaves her waiting for 14 years when for him it was only a couple of minutes.

The idea of someone waiting patiently for years for a friend to come around is also an apt description of the show's relationship with America, which has until recently stubbornly kept Doctor Who out of the mainstream.
