In 1992, Barbara Bush addressed the nation on live television during the Republican National Convention and kicked-off a still upheld tradition of hopeful first ladies. Since the first Bush, every wife of a presidential candidate has addressed their husbands' parties during their respective conventions.
"Shes the first first lady to have prepared remarks," Carl Sferrazza Anthony, historian of the National First Ladies' Library, told the AP. "And without saying anything overtly political, shes talking about the political issues of that period."
