Songwriting Legend Marvin Hamlish Dies at 68


Legendary composer Marvin Hamlisch -- best known for the Tony-winning musical A Chorus Line -- died Monday at the age of 68.

In his storied career, Hamlisch earned the distinction of winning every major American entertainment award -- the Emmy, the Grammy, the Oscar and the Tony (colloquially known as the EGOT) -- as well as the Pulitzer Prize.

While Hamlisch's best-known musical was A Chorus Line, the composer also worked extensively in cinema. Hamlisch composed the scores for such well-known films as The Way We Were, The Sting (which included an arrangement of the classic piano riff, "The Entertainer"), Sophie's Choice, The Spy Who Loved Me and Ordinary People.
