Hackable Game Console Runs Android, Needs $950,000




A new gaming console wants to "bring the openness of the mobile games market to the TV."

OUYA is an Android-based gaming console its creators say will retail for $99, and will bring more free-to-play games to the television. Julie Uhrman, CEO and founder of OUYA, says she wants the console to be a disruptor to the market that is too hard for small game developers to break into.

"For gamers, hardware and software is still too expensive," Uhrman says. "For developers, it's still very expensive to bring games to the TV. The television has the best graphics, the best experience, the most time and money spent playing on it. We want to open that up."
