Why Kayak Can Shrug Off Googles Threat For Now




For a company that bills itself as a search engine for travel, Kayak gets a fairly small slice of traffic from searches. As the company disclosed in its IPO paperwork Monday morning, about 10% of Kayak's user queries came from searches on Google, Bing and other "general search engine websites."

Though most web-based companies are at the mercy of the major search engines, Kayak's situation is even more precarious since Google and Bing have both identified travel as a major growth area.
