Tampa Officially Declares June 30 Social Media Day

Tampa, Fla. has officially declared June 30 Social Media Day. It joins 13 other cities and two U.S. states in formally marking the day.

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn signed the proclamation on June 22 to celebrate the city's flourishing social media scene. Tampa is one of the top 10 most social-media savvy cities for small businesses, and has an up-and-coming tech startup scene.

"When something new comes up, we're very quick to adapt," said Ryan Sullivan, who is organizing Tampa's Social Media Day celebration. "A lot of people learn the latest in tech quickly, then regurgitate the knowledge back out to the community."
