Google Compute Engine: Cloud-Based Supercomputing for All

Google today announced the availability of a cloud-based supercomputing engine that app developers will be able to access. Apps that depend on extremely computational-intensive tasks -- such as genetic sequencing -- will be able to buy time on Google Compute Engine, potentially accelerating their tasks greatly.

Today at its developer conference, Google I/O, Google showed the cloud engine directing 10,000 individual computing cores toward a gene-sequencing app, reducing the 10-minute time to complete a task to mere seconds.
