Can Cisco Re-Invent the Router?

The home router -- the one that connects all your devices to the same Wi-Fi network -- is evolving. As people consume more and more bandwidth-heavy content such as video, standards are changing to keep up. Cisco is going a step further by introducing a system where your devices aren't just connected by a faster connection, but also accessible from anywhere.

Cisco's new system is called Cisco Connect Cloud (CCC), and you get it when you buy one of the company's Linksys Smart Wi-Fi routers. With CCC, your router becomes more than just a junction of data pipes -- instead, you're given a gateway that bestows your devices with special networking features and extra interoperability.
