Windows Phone Wallet Feature to Use NFC




Microsoft joined Google and Apple in trying to usher in a mobile phone-based wallet feature on Wednesday.

The feature, called "Wallet," will be baked in to the new Windows Phone 8 OS and rely on near-field communications (NFC), the same "tap to pay" technology that Google uses for its Wallet product.

Microsoft is also using a "secure SIM" technology for Wallet that will aggregate your private information, like memberships and loyalty plans in one place, a la Passbook, Apple's new enhancement for iOS6. The feature also lets users save deals from web searches and scan bar codes to get discount offers.
