Astronomy enthusiasts across the globe are in for a treat Tuesday evening. In an extremely rare event, Venus will visibly pass between the sun and the Earth.The planet passes between Earth and the sun five times in the course of every eight years, but the passage usually isn’t visible. In fact, the phenomenon won’t be seen by humans again until 2117. The passage will last about six and a half hours and begins just after 6:00 p.m. ET. At least parts of the event will be visible to most locations on Earth.
