Twitter Takes Tweetdeck Offline After Apparent Bug Opens Access To Accounts

Twitter has taken Tweetdeck offline after an apparent bug has possibly given some Tweetdeck users access to others’ accounts. A Tweetdeck user in Australia, Geoff Evanson, says he discovered today he was somehow able to access hundreds of other accounts through Tweetdeck. Here is an email he sent us: “I’m a tweetdeck user. A bug has given me access to hundreds of twitter and facebooks account through tweetdeck. I didn’t do anything special to make this happen. I just logged in one day, the account was was slower than normal, and I could post from many more accounts.” He also Tweeted about the situation here: Hey @Tweetdeck A bug in your software has given me access to hundreds of accounts. #YouShouldLookIntoThat /cc @Twitter https://t.co/9UsLgnN9— Geoff Evason (@gevason) March 30, 2012 Twitter has responded to the situation only by saying that they’ve shut off access to Tweetdeck entirely: TweetDeck is currently down while we look into an issue. Apologies for the inconvenience.—   (@TweetDeck) March 30, 2012 This is breaking news, so we’ll be updating this post with more information as we get it.
