Well, the evidence is mounting, and it looks like I may have let my eagerness for self-propelled flight of the flapping variety to actually be possible get in the way of reality. Yesterday, we covered Jarno Smeets, a.k.a. The Human BirdWings guy, supposedly taking off on self-built wings on a flight that he claimed spanned over 100 meters. However, the CGI experts are calling BS the semi-self-propelled flight. And while this still doesn't prove it's a hoax directly -- in fact, Jamie Hyneman of MythBusters yesterday laid out an explanation of how it could be plausibile using modern tech -- it sure isn't looking good for old Jarno.
